The back of this vintage postcard tells us that the Leadville Ice Palace painting by Herndom Davis hangs in the Vendome Hotel in Leadville Colorado. The Ice Palace opened New Years Day 1896. It measured 325 feet by 185 feet with towers reaching 90 feet. It was dedicated to winter fun and contained a skating rink, dance floor, curling rink, restaurant, gaming rooms etc. It remained open until spring thaws took their toll.
